Gut Feeling

“If it aligns with your purpose then you sure as hell should pursue it”

A quote I found on Pinterest that pretty much sums up how I try to live my life.

But, what if you don’t know what your purpose is? What if you’ve grown up, and you still don’t know what you want to be?

Take the pressure off yourself, you don’t need to have your whole life figured out.

Take a moment, close your eyes, and picture yourself in the future living your best life— even if you don’t know what this looks like take note of the feeling it gives you.

Now, the key is to remember this feeling and take steps to get you there everyday.

When I was younger, and I did this visualisation I felt relaxed, warm, and fulfilled. I can honestly say, that is how I feel when I’m in clinic treating.

It took me years to get to this stage, to work for myself as a health practitioner. It took a lot of courage and support to take the leap into self employment too. Honestly though, I knew there was no other way. Call it gut feeling, or some darn stubbornness, I knew I wanted to work for myself because I wanted to create a beautiful healing sanctuary that my patients could retreat to.

I’m not saying I didn’t have hurdles. I’m saying I had an unwavering gut feeling of who I wanted to be and how I pictured my life being. In moments of doubt, I found myself saying that even if I fail there is NOTHING else I want to do more in my life, so I will keep trying until I succeed.

I think that is something “they” - the successful people- don’t tell us. That they had big fat no’s, and they had moments where everything fell away. But the thing that they did, was that they stood up and tried again, and again, and again.

Everyday I listen to my gut feeling, and I use this to guide me. I check in with myself and ask if I’m heading in the right direction. Am I happy with the way things are? Is there enough balance in my life? Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes it is no. No judgement either way. Reflection is a powerful tool, and after all, how can we make any changes without evaluating what we have to begin with?

I hope if you’re not living the life you dream of, that you take small steps in the right direction. It’s never too late to start something new. There is no need to rush the process, check in with your gut to see how you feel about all the possibilities, and then start slowly.
