Weight Loss

Do you desire to live in a different way? To stop punishing or shaming yourself. Not only in relation to food and how you eat, but with other people, at work, with money, and most importantly yourself.

To say goodbye to diet culture, does not mean binge eating or eating processed foods. It means changing the way you view your relationship with food, and ultimately everything else in your life. If you feel you need to be punished or shamed for how you eat, imagine how else this is showing up in your life. Changing diet culture means a shift from the focus on your weight to focus on yourself and your health.

3 aspects of health to focus on

  1. Emotion

If you’re not feeling hungry, but you’re reaching for food the food will never satisfy you as there is something else your body is craving. You might be longing for companionship, belonging, not being along, being bored, or even certain memories associated with the food. The best way to tackle your emotions and see what it is you truly need. If you’re unsure start with yourself, nurture yourself and provide self love opposed to eating yourself numb.

  2. Nutrition

Throw out the old way of thinking of calories consumed = calories burned. Food is not made equal. If you’re reading how many calories and nutrients are on a packet you’re looking at the wrong type of food. The best type of food doesn’t come wrapped in plastic. It’s real, whole foods that come from nature. Use nature’s ingredients to make meals “from scratch” to supply your body with the best nutrients. If you want bonus points make the food warm.

  3. Biochemistry

The obsession with coffee drives our adrenalin production and promotes our “fight or flight” response. This, and the added pressures of the state of the world right now have metabolic consequences for the foods we do eat. Cortisol the stress hormone promotes the body’s use of fast burning fuels, over slow-burning fat which is stored to help us survive these “un-safe” times. Prolonged stimulus like this causes our metabolism to change and have this setting as the norm.

What’s the mind, body, soul alternative to diet culture & loosing weight?

  • first of go back and read the second paragraph, let’s shift the perspective from weight loss to nourishing and caring for our body

  • eat real whole foods that come from nature

  • Eat them warm

  • remember to breath from your stomach

  • drink mostly water

  • get at least 8 hours of sleep a night

  • chose at least 3-4 days a week where you do some exercise and stick to it

    • ideas include doing weights, walking with a friend, sunshine yoga, & pilates. The goal is to find movement in a way that suits you.

Life is so precious, and I want you to make the commitment to start nourishing and looking after yourself. True happiness comes from within, and if within you’re fueling yourself with negative thoughts, bad foods, and no movement the lenses in which you view the world can’t help but become foggy.

The points above are not rules, and don’t need to be executed perfectly 24/7, 365. The consistency of doing so will create waves though, and you deserve to live a happy, healthy, life. Following these points will bring you energy, vitality, grace, freedom & love.
