8 Ways to Support Yourself During Your Period

When you are menstruating, it is natural to want to slow down and rest. Below are 8 things you can do that will allow you to support yourself during your period.

  • Pre-cook food in advance so when you're on your bleed you can really just relax and slow down. Freezing food is great for this.

  • Block out your calendar in advance. It is normal to want to be more introverted before and during your period. Blocking out your calendar in advance or adding  reminders can be helpful so you can be purposeful with your time and prevent you from over scheduling yourself.

  • Ask for support! Ask people close to you for support with the 'doing' chores around your period (washing, tidying the house, cooking, walking the dog, etc.) This can help to lighten the mental load so you can focus on rest and nourishment.

  • Eat nourishing, warm foods: This includes those slow cooked foods, stews and warm soups.

  • Do some gentle stretching/period-friendly yoga: this will help to relax the muscles and get the body into a more parasympathetic state.

  • Use a warm compress or heatpack: this will help encourage blood flow and warmth to the area.

  • Make yourself a cup of tea: chamomile, ginger and turmeric are all great to support your bleed.

  • Reach out to a Naturopath or Acupuncturist for further support and as a way to help nourish your body.
