FAQs
Q. What is acupuncture?
A. Acupuncture works by activating your body’s innate healing response through insertion of fine needles at specific acupoints. These acupoints are located on meridians and aim to correct the flow of qi in the body. When the smooth flow of qi is disrupted, pain or disease can occur according to Chinese Medicine theory.
The best thing about acupuncture is that it is working with your body to heal itself. There are minimal side effects and it is relatively painless.
Q. Does acupuncture hurt?
A. When people think of a needle they are usually thinking of a hypodermic needle that is used in a blood test. Acupuncture needles are no where near the same size of a hypodermic needle. In fact, the needles used at our clinic range from 0.16mm to 0.22mm.
Our practitioners practice a gentle type of acupuncture, and will endeavour not to cause pain. If you feel uncomfortable at any point during consultation please don’t hesitate to let your practitioner know.
Dull sensations around the acupoint may be felt. They are considered normal and a positive sign of acupuncture treatment.
Q. How many treatments will I need?
A. How long is a piece of string?
Acupuncture is a gentle healing therapy, and multiple treatments are often advised to recalibrate your body. For some individuals 1-2 treatments is enough for a simple musculoskeletal complaint, however, for more complex conditions more treatments will be required.
For more information regarding your specific condition please contact the clinic.
Q. What should I wear to an appointment?
A. Loose, comfortable clothing is advised. Areas of the body that will need access to vary depending on the condition. Here at Ochre we practise appropriate draping techniques, and will endeavour to keep you comfortable at all times.
